Here is a quick post I thought I’d throw together featuring a few of my favourite speakers on the subject of spirituality & consciousness…
First Video – An Evening with Ram Dass NYC 1985 Part 1
I think part of this video series is missing, but the parts that are available are awesome. Ram Dass talks with more clarity and lucidity than any public speaker I’ve ever heard. An absolute master with words. Articulate isn’t the word. He’s also master of his own self awareness, constantly demonstrated in his many talks.
Second Video – Richard Alpert (Ram Dass) on LSD
This is Ram Dass when he was still in Harvard I think. Back then I’m not so sure he’d been to India yet so he was still going by the name Richard Alpert. Here he talks about the effects of LSD and its role in society/social structures/social roles. He comes in after about two minutes.
Third Video – Timothy Leary at Millbrook, Part 1
Doctor Timothy Leary was an associate of Richard Alpert’s at Harvard University during the 1960s. They both were fired from their positions for attempting to conduct experiments in psychedelics. Here he is talking on the subject.
Fourth Video – Terence McKenna, The Psychedelic Society
This guy is very interesting. I’ve put a few people on to him and they find him too weird as he literally talks like a martian or one of the baddies from Penelope Pitstop. Please try to not care about his voice! He too is one ARTICULATE dude, with a vernacular that’s from another dimension. Notice how beautifully he can string out a sentence with great intent, grace and with totally original syntax.
Fifth Video – Alan Watts, Athiest Spirituality
This is a cute collection of Alan Watts talks. I say cute because of the various animations that run alongside the words. Sometimes they’re a little distracting but sometimes they occupy the visual space nicely and amusingly. A good gathering of random chatter from another very articulate person. He has a very practical view of spirituality.
I hope these videos had as strong an impact on you as they did me and I further hope that the speakers continue to frequent your lives as there is much more material besides this.
